Did you breastfeed?

I know, I know... This is such a controversial subject. And honestly as long as your baby is fed I don't mind either way. I personally bottle fed one of my kids and breastfed the other 3 for longer than 2 years. When Kristan contacted me to capture a breastfeeding session for her and her 18 month old daughter I was beyond honored and so thrilled to capture the beauty of this relationship.

Kristan has a tumor on her pituitary gland. This causes excess release of the hormone prolactin which is responsible for milk production. She was just accepted to UNM school of law and because of this tumor can't just decrease nursing sessions because her body will continue to overproduce. This can cause clogged milk ducts and mastitis (both extremely painful and a real drag for breastfeeding moms). She will have to take a medication to completely stop milk production.

As a breastfeeding mom my self, I felt the sadness she felt. I wanted to make sure that her images would remind her of the sweet (and exhausting) bond she had for so long with her baby girl.

I hope to get to do more of these sessions in the future! This will easilly be one of my favorite sessions to date!
